Films I Like

Hey angels!

I just moved into my apartment and theres literally nothing for me to do. Like no one else is moved yet, classes haven't started, so I have nothing to keep me busy. Sooo I thought I'd write about something fun to cure my boredom so here it is!

I loveee watching movies. I wouldn't consider myself a connoisseur or anything, nor do I like pretentious films, but when it comes to discerning the quality of movies I like to think I have a pretty good radar. That being said, as you'll see pretty quickly I have a very specific genre of movie I gravitate towards, so if that isn't your vibe I totally get it. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of my most beloved films that I consistently return to when there is nothing else to watch. Without further ado, here are (in no particular order), four movies that I absolutely love!

Music doesn't need lyrics to be captivating

 Hello Angels!

    As someone who listens to a wide range of musical genres, one that I continually return to is the category of instrumental pieces. I adore listening to rich, warm jazz numbers, or grand, atmospheric symphonies, just as much as I love trip-hop, rap, rock, etc. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that pieces without lyrics often evoke stronger emotions in me than those that have them. It seems common to use genres like western classical as ambient noise, rather than listening to them with the same intention, intensity, and focus as you would any other song. This practice has always puzzled me. In my mind, orchestral music demands attention, and can only be properly experienced as a main event, rather than an afterthought or background noise. 

    Whenever I'm feeling bitter, sad, or overwhelmed, I always turn to my "no words" Spotify playlist, for I can always count on the compositions to provide catharsis in times of need. It is because of this that I want to highlight several instrumental works I adore. To make things simpler (since some of these pieces well exceed 10 minutes) I will be providing time stamps of moments in each piece that I feel are the most beautiful/worth listening to. I strongly encourage you to give these a listen, even if you just jump to the timestamps I promise it'll be worthwhile. Enjoy! 

Quick note: I'm choosing not to refer to these pieces as classical music because many of them fall outside the scope of the definition (despite being orchestral movements with complex instrumentals). Technically, the strict definition of classical music refers to an era from the 1750s to 1830 (think Mozart and Beethoven), which most of these compositions do not fall within. While looser interpretations exist, most experts still do not consider movie/TV scores to be truly classical, and since I've included a few here I've chosen not to refer to them as such.

Going into my sophomore year of college, I am so excited to be living in an apartment with one of my best friends! One of the things I am looking forward to the most (besides having independence, my own room, and an actual kitchen...) is getting to decorate our space! Quantum Immortality and Schrödinger's Cat

I recently came across a YouTube video called "The Existential Crisis Iceberg" by Alex O'Connor, in which the concept of quantum immortality was discussed. I've had a brief introduction to quantum physics in my high school classes, and upon hearing about immortality my interest was immediately piqued. After doing some further research, and grappling with the vast existential implications of quantum immortality, I knew I had to write a blog post/brain dump, so here it is!

This past year of college, I took a class that discussed famous philosophers and connected their ideologies to popular films. As someone who isn't a philosophy major, but nevertheless is fascinated by the discipline, I fell in love with this course. I have to admit that my last post was a little bit of a downer. Soooo, I thought I'd really switch things up this time around and talk about one of my favorite things: Celebrity crushes! Now, if you were to ask me to give you a rundown of all of my celeb crushes, I'd probably be able to fill an entire book. So, for your sake and mine, I'm only going to talk about my (current) 4 favorites. Also, for this post I will focus solely on my male crushes... but I'm planning on doing a post about the girlies later on so stay tuned! Okay that's enough rambling, lets get into the juicy stuff.
